Dramatically perched on the edge of a plateau, Sapa is a fantastic introduction to the ethnic minorities of Vietnam. Actually a small market town, it is the gathering place for H'Mong, Red Dao and Tay people who come into the town to sell their wares. A great place to pick up some unique souvenirs, the market offers traditional embroidery and indigo dyed fabrics. For those looking for a more cultural trip, there are a plethora of treks and ethnic homestays in and around the Sapa area. Ham Rong Mountain also has traditional dance demonstrations and offers excellent views of the surrounding area.
